CLINTON TWP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) – How many times have you cursed us for not being around when you see a person driving like a—like a bad driver? Have you ever called to report an erratic driver? Is it your belief that calling in an erratic driver is pointless? Well, think again, New Jersey State Police said.
Two New Jersey residents were caught with a sub-machine gun and a revolver along with hundreds of dollars worth of cocaine and heroin last week on Interstate 78, New Jersey State Police said.
On Sunday, June 12 at 1:32 a.m., Trooper Uri Boyd was dispatched to an erratic driver traveling westbound on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County, police said.
The caller told police the vehicle was a white Hyundai with Delaware license plates and was “being driven all over the road,” police said.
Boyd located the vehicle at 1:38 a.m. and observed numerous traffic violations, then made the stop at mile-marker 18.4 in Clinton Township.
Boyd found the driver, Jashion Murray, 33, of Orange, to show signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated.
As troopers continued the investigation, they discovered a cache of drugs and weapons inside of the car. As a result, passenger, Jennifer Foster, 31, of Newark was arrested.
Troopers seized a loaded 357 revolver, six .38 caliber rounds, a sub-machine gun with an extended magazine, 33 nine millimeter rounds, $510 worth of heroin, $420 worth of crack cocaine, $200 worth of prescription drugs, $70 worth of marijuana, and $1,973 in cash.
Murray and Foster were charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to possess a weapon, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession cocaine, possession of prescription legend drugs, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of marijuana, under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bail for Murray was set at $250,000 and $125,000 for Foster. Both were lodged in Hunterdon County Jail.
“The moral of the story is that we most certainly do respond to your erratic driver calls, so please continue to report them,” police said.
