HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Centenary University Student is facing a drug charge after marijuana smoke set off the fire alarm in his dorm room Tuesday morning.

Jared Andino, 21, of East Stroudsburg, PA was charged with being under the influence of marijuana.

At around 1:38 a.m., town police and the fire department responded to Centenary University’s Van Winkle Hall, located at 655 West Plane St, in reference to an activated fire alarm, police said.

When officers arrived on scene, they detected the odor of burnt and raw marijuana coming from inside a dorm room, police said.

Once authorities determined that the marijuana smoke caused the fire alarm activation and there was no active fire, the students were allowed back into the building, police said.

Andino returned to his room and officers allegedly detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from him, police said.

Through a police investigation it was determined that Andino was under the influence of marijuana, police said.

Andino was released pending a court appearance.
