Hackettstown man charged with DWI and assault by auto

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A 30-year-old Hackettstown man is facing several charges including assault by auto and driving while intoxicated after a two-vehicle crash earlier this month.

Jason Conklin, 30, was charged with fourth-degree assault by auto, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, failure to stop, and reckless driving.

On March 11, at around 7:33 p.m., town police responded to intersection of West Moore St and Madison St for a report of a motor vehicle crash, police said.

Through a police investigation they determined that a 47-year-old Hackettstown woman was travelling on Madison St in a 2010 Hyundai when she was struck by a 2016 Ford driven by Conklin, who was travelling on West Moore St, police said.

Police determined that Conklin allegedly didn’t stop for the stop sign at the intersection.

While the officer was talking to Conklin, the officer allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, police said.

The woman complained of neck pain and a wrist injury. A 49-year-old Hackettstown man, who was a passenger in her vehicle, complained of chest pain. Both were transported to Hackettstown Medical Center by Hackettstown Rescue Squad.

Conklin was released pending a court appearance.
