MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – An Independence Township man was charged last month after he was caught speeding and allegedly lied to police about a medical emergency at his home.
Kenneth Moyer, 38, was charged with speeding, failure to maintain lanes, two equipment violations, and providing false information to a law enforcement officer.
On March 24 at 6:04 p.m., a township officer attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Rockport Road, police said.
The vehicle continued for over one mile with the officer following with lights and siren before coming to a stop, police said.
Moyer advised the officer he was responding to a medical emergency at his residence and that the rescue squad was at that location. The officer checked with dispatch and with the hospital and there was no known emergency, police said.
The officer then requested an Independence police officer to check the residence and no emergency was found. The officer then followed him to his residence and confirmed there was no emergency, police said.
Moyer was released pending a court appearance.
