We were supposed to be talking about physical therapy for treating plantar fasciitis, but Morning Mike’s conversation with Carol Cote broadened into a discussion about all foot issues – and how physical therapy can help. Carol is President and Director of North Jersey Physical Therapy Associates (NJPTA) in Hackettstown and Morristown, and she shared some of the training she received working with the doctors at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, the official teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The foot, ankle, and lower leg are intricate mechanisms, designed to provide balance and bear the impact of walking and running. Problems occur when any of these parts become weak or out of alignment. Carol talked about the great success she has had with professional runners. In many cases, plantar fasciitis is a symptom of other problems that need to be addressed.
