PHILLIPSBURG, NJ (Warren County) – Due to forecasted inclement weather, the continuous 57-hour-long single-lane travel pattern scheduled for this weekend along Interstate 78 westbound near the New Jersey-Pennsylvania border has been cancelled, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.
The uninterrupted closure of two of three westbound travel lanes in the vicinity of the Interstate 78 Toll Bridge had been scheduled to begin 10:00 p.m. Friday, April 6 and continue until 7:00 a.m. Monday, April 9.
It would have been the second of seven weekend-long single-lane westbound travel configurations to be implemented this spring as part of the Commission’s 18-month-long I-78 Bridges and Approach Slabs Rehabilitation Project.
The project’s core construction activity involves the replacement of approach slabs at the dual-span Interstate 78 Toll Bridge and eight approach structures (relatively short-distance overpass/underpass type bridges) between Exit 3 in New Jersey and Exit 75 in Pennsylvania. Single-lane weekend-long travel patterns are needed to safely carry out the approach-slab replacements.
The work of replacing westbound approach slabs is now expected to resume during the weekend of April 14-15.
