BLAIRSTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A 17-year-old juvenile has been charged with stealing a car last year in Blairstown Township.
On November 26, 2017, township police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Mt. Vernon Road, police said in a press release on Friday.
When officers arrived on scene, several eye witnesses advised the officers that there were possibly two male suspects that attempted to tow the vehicle prior to officers arriving, police said.
During the police investigation, officers determined that the vehicle was stolen from the registered owner’s property in Blairstown and the suspects crashed the vehicle and left the scene, police said.
After a thorough investigation, leads, and eye witnesses accounts, the 17 year old male allegedly confessed to police that he stole the vehicle and operated it during the motor vehicle accident, police said.
The juvenile was charged with theft of an automobile and was cited for several traffic violations in regards to the crash, police said.
A possible second suspect, also a male juvenile, has been identified. This portion of the investigation is still ongoing therefore, the details regarding the second male juvenile will not be released.
“It was a very long and involved investigation,” police said.
