Asbury, NJ(Warren County)–On Saturday, April 28th, the Musconetcong Watershed Association (MWA) will hold its annual Native Plant Sale at the River Resource Center — 10 Maple Avenue in Asbury, NJ.  The event will go from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is held rain or shine.  Attendees will have access to Master Gardeners who can help advise them on selecting the right plants for their unique landscape.

In addition, this year’s sale will be supported by Wild Ridge Plants of Pohatcong, NJ who will be in attendance to assist customers with their plant selections.  Thanks to the generosity of Wild Ridge, the first 20 families making a purchase with kids in tow will get a copy of children’s book The Puddle Garden!

Native plants are not only beautiful, but they are also essential to our ecosystem and local wildlife.  Because they require little to no fertilizers or pesticides, using them in landscapes and yards means less expense for homeowners.  Using native plants also reduces water consumption and lessens the amount of run-off that could reach local waterways, protecting our water.

While you are visiting, check out the newly installed rain gardens across the street at the Asbury Mill.  This project was a collaborative effort with MWA and partner North Jersey Resource Conservation & Development Council.  Rain gardens are landscape features designed to manage stormwater runoff, and this one was built with native perennials that help keep pollutants from entering the Musconetcong River.

The Musconetcong Watershed Association (MWA) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and improving the quality of the Musconetcong River and its Watershed, including its natural and cultural resources.  To learn more about the MWA and native planting, visit www.musconetcong.org.
