PHILLIPSBURG, NJ (Warren County) – A three week long investigation into the alleged distribution of heroin within Phillipsburg has led to the arrest of a Pennsylvania man, according to Warren County Prosecutor Richard Burke.
On Tuesday, Phillipsburg police, Washington Township Police, Hackettstown Police, NJ State Police and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Unit executed a narcotics search warrant in Phillipsburg, Burke said.
As a result of the search warrant, more than 500 bags of heroin, a .25 caliber handgun with a magazine and ammunition were seized, Burke said.
Devin Salas, 26, of West Berwick St in Easton was charged with one ocunt of second-degree possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose, once count of second-degree possession of a firearm while committing a controlled dangerous substance-related crime, one count of fourth-degree possession of a weapon by a certain person not to possess weapons, one count of fourth–degree possession of a defaced firearm, one count of third-degree possession of heroin and one count of third-degree possession with the intent to distribute heron.
The second degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose carries a mandatory period incarceration of five years. The second degree offense of possession a firearm while committing a controlled dangerous substance-related offense carries a mandatory consecutive term of 43 months.
Each third-degree controlled dangerous substance offense carries a maximum term of imprisonment of five years and/or a fine of $35,000 for possession and $75,000 for distribution or possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance.
The fourth degree offenses carry a maximum term of imprisonment of 180 days and/or a fine of $10,000.
