BELVIDERE, NJ (Warren County) – Students from Belvidere helped equip some first responders in Warren County with a tool to save the lives of pets impacted by a fire.
Students from Mrs. Schnezler’s class donated pet oxygen masks to fire departments, rescue squads and police during a recepetion on Friday.
This fundraiser began earlier this year after Mrs. Schnezler’s class had seen a YouTube video of a firefighter reviving a dog after being rescued from a structure fire.
The students placed donation buckets in each of the three schools to help raise the money. They exceeded their goal and were then able to donate pet masks to more first responders than originally expected.
Unfortunately, oxygen masks designed for humans are often too wide and too shallow to properly fit over an animal’s snout, which means oxygen cannot be administered efficiently. Pet oxygen masks will allow first responders to give oxygen to animals right on the scene.
The Belvidere Ambulance Corps, Belvidere Police Department, Good Will Fire Company, Greenwich Fire & Rescue, Harmony Twp Volunteer Fire Company, Oxford Ambulance Squad, Oxford Volunteer Fire Department, Hope Volunteer Fire Department, Mountain Lake Fire Company and Blairstown Ambulance Corps all received a pet oxygen mask.
Mrs. Schnezler’s class worked very hard to raise money to order Pet Oxygen masks for our First Responders. Today they presented the masks to our community members @schnezlerclass @OxfordStES @principallazbhs @BSDThirdStreet pic.twitter.com/CoLXgsdhSe
