MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Investigations John R. Speirs, Morris Plains Borough Police Chief Jason A. Kohn, Morris Township Police Chief Mark DiCarlo, Hanover Township Police Chief Mark Roddy, and Randolph Township Police Chief David Stokoe announce that on Saturday, April 28, 2018, they will be participating in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
This event is coordinated nationwide by the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Morris County’s event in conjunction with the DEA, is a collaborative effort by members from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris Plains Police Department, Morris Township Police Department, Hanover Township Police Department and the Randolph Township Police Department.
The initiative encourages individuals to anonymously and confidentially turn in unused, unwanted or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications into secure drop boxes. It is a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for the abuse of medications. After the event, law enforcement officials will dispose of these substances in an environmentally safe manner.
The two 2017 National Prescription Drug Take-Back events were a great success, as they yielded more than 1500 pounds of collected drugs here in Morris County at three locations. The amount of support for the event was impressive, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office along with their community partners, hope that the 2018 events will be even more successful.
Prosecutor Knapp stated, “This program has proven to be an effective method for the appropriate discarding of unused and unwanted medications, and I am hopeful this trend will continue. Curbing the abuse of medications not only benefits individuals, but benefits society as a whole.”
This National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the following three locations:
