HOPATCONG BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A 54-year-old man was charged after he allegedly spat in an officer’s face earlier this month.
Joseph Henry of Hopatcong was charged with throwing bodily fluids at law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
On April 8 at 5:56 p.m., borough police responded to a dispute on Bucknell Trail. When the officer arrived, he went to the basement of the house to speak with Henry, who was one of the people involved in the dispute, Hopatcong Police Lieutenant Meghan McCluskey said.
When the officer got to the basement door, the officer heard loud music playing. The offcier knocked on the door at which point Henry began cursing and yelling at the officer, McCluskey said.
Henry then exited the basement and continued to yell at the officer. He then walked up to the officer only leaving approximately 1 foot of distance between the two, McCluskey said.
The officer put his hand out to stop him from getting any closer at which point Henry spat in the officer’s face. The officer told Henry he was under arrest and grabbed his left arm. Henry began pulling away, resisting arrest, McCluskey said.
The officers handcuffed Henry and brought him to the patrol car which he refused to get in. After multiple times of telling Henry to get into the car he finally did but continued to yell and curse at the officers, McCluskey said.
Henry has a future court appearance.
