HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Hackettstown police received a call Wednesday afternoon about a snapping turtle wandering down East Ave.

When officers arrived, they found the turtle alongside the roadway.

“After a slow pursuit, the officer caught up to the 40-50 pound turtle and took it into custody,” police said.

The turtle was then carried to the Musconetcong River where it swam away, police said.

Luckily, the turtle avoided all cars along its journey.
