DOVER, NJ (Morris County) – East Dover Elementary School will remain closed Friday after crews extinguished an electrical fire in a classroom.
At around 7:15 a.m., a fire alarm was activated at the East Dover Elementary School, located at 300 East McFarlan Street, Dover Public Safety Director Daniel DeGroot said.
Dover Fire Department first responders discovered a small electrical fire in classroom 209 located on the second floor, caused by a malfunctioning wall-mounted fan, DeGroot said.
The fire was quickly extinguished by the first responders, minimizing the smoke and soot damage to the classroom, DeGroot said.
The classroom was unoccupied at the time of the fire since the school was not yet open. There were no injuries, DeGroot said.
The school will remain closed for the day to allow for cleanup operations, DeGroot said.
Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Wharton, Picatinny Arsenal and Rockaway Borough.
