NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A New York man was sentenced to jail and probation after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, according to the prosecutor’s office.
David Heller, 32, of Unionville was sentenced by the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on May 4.
On November 9, 2017, Heller met his ex-girlfriend to drop off their daughter and they got into an argument. He then strangled her until she lost consciousness.
Heller was sentenced to 270 days in jail with credit for 176 days time served and four years probation, ordered to obtain a psychological evaluation, attend anger management and to pay mandatory fines and fees.
Heller pled guilty on January 16, 2018 to one count of third-degree aggravated assault.
