Mother charged with death by auto after a crash that led to son’s death

Additionally, she had been charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, failure to maintain lanes, failure to wear safety equipment, careless driving and reckless driving.

Superior Court Judge James DeMarzo Friday authorized a warrant-complaint charging Boucher with second degree death by auto. Bail was set at $200,000 with no ten percent option.

The charge is in connection with a serious motor vehicle collision on Sunday at approximately 9:41 p.m. The single vehicle accident occurred in the area of 21 Upper Hibernia Road. The vehicle was a 2001 red Chevrolet, which was driven by Debra Boucher. The disabled vehicle was located on Upper Hibernia Road.

In addition to Debra Boucher, there was one additional occupant of the vehicle, who was identified as James Boucher, 40, the son of Debra Boucher. Both occupants sustained serious bodily injuries. James Boucher was transported via helicopter to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. Debra Boucher also was transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

On June 29, 2016, James Boucher was subsequently pronounced deceased.

This matter continues to be investigated by the Rockaway Township Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
