BLAIRSTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – The quick thinking of a New Jersey bus driver saved students from a school bus fire Monday morning.
The school bus driver noticed the engine compartment of her bus burst in to flames while on her morning route picking up children who were going to the Blairstown Elementary School.
She quickly evacuated the dozen children before the bus was engulfed in flames. The bus, which was on Hoagland Road, was destroyed but there were no injuries to the driver or the children.
The children were escorted to a home in the area while awaiting the arrival of another bus to transport the children to school.
The bus is owned by Stocker Bus Company out of Newton.
Fire departments from Hope and Blairstown were dispatched along with the Blairstown Ambulance Corps. and the Blairstown Police department.
