HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Several Warren County residents attended the second Let’s Talk-Community Forum series which was held at Hackettstown High School Tuesday evening.
The Warren County Police Chief’s Association and the Hackettstown Police Department sponsored the forum which included a simulator that put citizens in the split second world of police work, as in shoot or don’t shoot.
The forum started with a presentation on some insight into being a police officer, challenges facing police officers and discussions on current trends in the community.
Residents then were able to use a simulator and experience four modules: routine patrol stop, use of force, domestic violence, and active killer. The simulator with the presentation reminded them how quick a decision really is and how much unexpected danger an officer faces every day.
The forum was funded through a grant with the Open Society Foundation Police Associations Leading 21st Century Policing. The grant was awarded based on the Warren County Police Chiefs Association desire to increase trust between police officers and the communities they serve.
The next Let’s Talk-Community Forum series will be held on on Wednesday, June 13 at the Washington Township Municipal Building, located at 211 Route 31 south.
