MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – Two Morris County men have pleaded guilty to weapons and drug charges this week in hearings before Superior Court Judge Catherine I. Enright in Morristown, according to Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp.
Christian Mojica, 20, of Dover, entered a guilty plea on Wednesday to first-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute.
Naeem White, 20, of Wharton, entered a guilty plea on Thursday to two counts of first-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and second-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.
The weapons charges—normally second degree offenses — were elevated to first degree offenses for both men by virtue of the defendants’ prior robbery convictions, Knapp said.
The investigation culminated in the seizure of two handguns, 35 rounds of ammunition, more than one-half ounce of cocaine, more than six pounds of marijuana, drug distribution related paraphernalia and the profits of criminal activity in excess of $14,000 United States currency, Knapp said.
The investigation was conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Special Enforcement Unit/Narcotics Task Force, the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force, Mt. Olive Police Department, Dover Police Department, Byram Police Department, New Jersey State Police and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.
Mojica faces a 10-year state prison sentence with 42 months of parole ineligibility on the gun charge, and a concurrent 6-year period of incarceration on the drug charge. Both charges will run concurrently to the 5- year period of incarceration he is expected to receive (pursuant to the No Early Release Act) when he is terminated from Drug Court and re-sentenced on a second-degree robbery conviction.
White faces 11 years in prison with 48 months of parole ineligibility on the gun charges. His sentences will run concurrent to a 6-year term of incarceration on the drug charge. All three charges will run concurrently to the 5-year period of incarceration White is expected to receive (pursuant to the No Early Release Act) when he is terminated from Drug Court and re-sentenced on a second-degree robbery conviction.
Mojica and White are scheduled to be sentenced on June 22.
