BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Firefighters extinguished a 2-alarm fire that destroyed a Byram Township home Monday morning.

The blaze was reported at around 5:46 a.m. at a residence on Rose Marie Ln. It was reported that the residence was next to propane tanks, according to a post on the fire department’s Facebook page.

Township police arrived on location and reported a working fire. A 2-alarm was requested for additional tenders to the scene.

The first and second floors collapsed internally and the structure became unsafe.

There were pockets of fire under the collapsed floors and it was determined to bring in an excavator to tear down the house to extinguish the fire and mitigate the potential collapse.

Thee family made it out safe but their dog died in the fire, police said.

The fire remains under investigation by the Byram Police Department, Sussex County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Sussex County Prosecutors Office.
