HOPATCONG, NJ (Sussex County) – Authorities say the body of a missing Hopatcong man has been found in Clarke County, Virginia.
On Sunday, the Page County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia in reference to an unidentified deceased male found at a campsite in their jurisdiction, Page County Sheriffs Major John Baker said.
“It is with our sincerest condolences to the Piccola family that we announce that on June 19, the Page County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office that they have confirmed this to be the body of Edward Piccola,” Baker said.
Piccola had been missing since May 30 and was last seen at Krogh’s Restaurant & Brew Pub in Sparta.
Piccola’s unoccupied vehicle was located at a public boat landing in the Page Valley Estates area of Page County, located in Luray, Virginia, near Lot 8, on June 3.
Authorities in Page County, Va. suspended the search for Piccola on June 8 due to the weather forecast that predicted areas of heavy rain through the weekend with possible flash flooding with a river flow rise.
The Page County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Page County Emergency Services, Blue & Gray Search and Rescue, Virginia State Police, Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries, VDEM, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Hopatcong Police Department, and the Sussex County Prosecutors Office for all of their efforts in assisting with the search.
