MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Rocakway woman was charged while attempting to bail out her friend who had been arrested for drunk driving
On June 16 at 2:19 a.m., a township officer was on routine patrol when he observed a 2003 Chevrolet traveling west on Route 46 for allegedly failing to maintain its lane of travel, police said.
The officer initiated a motor vehicle stop with the vehicle as it made the illegal left turn from Route 46 onto Woodsedge Avenue, police said.
The officer made contact with the driver, who was identified as Robert L. Woolf, 45, of Washington, NJ, and he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and appeared to be impaired, police said.
Woolf was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where he submitted to chemical breath testing, police said.
Woolf was charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and failure to obey traffic signal.
Woolf contacted Melissa T. Vitale, 49, to pick him up from the police department. When she arrived, the officer went to the lobby of police headquarters to speak with her, police said.
As the officer spoke with Vitale, he allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and appeared to be impaired, police said.
Vitale was subsequently placed under arrest and submitted to chemical breath testing.
Vitale was charged with DWI and reckless driving.
Woolf and Vitale were released to a sober driver pending a court hearing.
