MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Budd Lake man who stopped to ask police for directions was arrested on drug charges last week.

On June 25 at 10:21 p.m., a township officer was assisting with a road closure on Main Street in Flanders when he was approached by Jeremiah Forde, 36, who asked him for directions, police said.

When the officer gave Forde directions, the officer detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle and observed an open container of alcohol in the front passenger seat, police said.

Forde allegedly voluntarily gave the officer a partially smoked cigarette containing suspected marijuana. He was asked to exit his vehicle and was then arrested, police said.

Forde was searched incident to arrest and fifteen multi-colored pills suspected to be ecstasy were located. His vehicle was searched and additional drug paraphernalia was located in the passenger compartment, police said.

Forde was charged with possession of ecstasy, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to Morris County Correctional Facility, pending a court hearing.
