MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – The Morris County Board of Freeholders, as part of a continuing tradition of holding county government “road meetings’’ in towns across the county, will meet at the municipal building in Mount Olive on Wednesday, July 11, at 7 p.m.

It is one of seven county governing board meeting being held outside of the county seat in Morristown in 2018 as part of an effort to bring county government closer to constituents.

Subsequent meetings are scheduled for Roxbury, Aug. 8; Jefferson, Sept. 12; and Mountain Lakes, Oct. 10.

“The Board of Freeholders takes our meetings on the road so we have the opportunity to meet county residents in the places where they live, work, and go to school. We encourage local and area residents and elected officials to attend a meeting and let us know isssue that you think need to be addressed,’’ said Freeholder Director Doug Cabana.

“It gives us the opportunity to hear issues of local and regional of concern, to allow us to  better understand and focus on the needs of county residents,’’ said Deputy Freeholder Director Christine Myers.

The freeholders on Wednesday are expected to present a historic plaque to the township for its preservation efforts on the Seward House, to dedicate a historic marker at town hall regarding the historic Flanders-Drakestown Road bridge, and consider approving more than $2 million in 2018 historic preservation grants for projects across the county.

The board of freeholders meet twice monthly, usually on the evening of the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, at the County Administration and Records Building in Morristown.

The public can comment at those meetings. The board also holds public work sessions at 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month and at 4:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
