ASBURY, N.J. – For the second time, in less than a week, a barn collapsed in Warren County due to severe weather.
On Thursday, a barn that collapsed along Route 519 in White Township ended up being due to an EF0 tornado, according to the National Weather Service.
A barn located on Smith Lane, which is located off of Old Main Street in Asbury was damaged Monday due to a storm that came through Warren County.
The barn is about 200 feet long, 60 feet wide and was built around 1950. The barn housed several antique cars and stored 5,000 bales of hay, according to neighbor Jim Yoson.
“I looked outside and virtualy couldn’t see 25 feet outside the house. Trees were going all over the place,” Yoson said.
According to Frank Wheatley, the Warren county public safety director and emergency management coordinator, “A funnel cloud was reported Monday but was not seen touching down on the ground.”
“As it actually started to blow through, I saw cars starting to stop on the road. I figured something blew down in the road. When I came out to take a look, then I looked across the street and saw the neighbors barn completely down on the ground, Yoson said.
There were no injuries reported to people or animals.
The Franklin Township Fire Department, Franklin Township Rescue Squad and Jersey Central Power and Light were some of the agencies that responded to the scene.
As of 8:00 p.m., JCP&L is reporting 127 power outages in Warren County, primarily in Franklin Township, 28 in Morris County, and 191 in Hunterdon County.
