LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A 25-year-old Stewartsville man has been charged with allegedly driving while more than three times the legal alcohol limit during a crash Sunday evening.

At around 10:00 p.m., township police responded to the intersection of Route 57 and Strykers Rd. for the report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries, police said.

When police arrived on scene, the officers observed two vehicles that had collided and sustained severe damage, police said.

While officers were speaking with one of the drivers, Thomas G. Walsh, the officers detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath, police said.

Walsh later failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently taken into custody, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital with an apparent hand injury, while other occupants were treated at the scene with minor injuries, police said.

Walsh later provided breath samples and was found to have a .27% BAC, which is more than three times the legal limit in New Jersey, police said.

Walsh was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to observe traffic signal and obstructing traffic.

Walsh was released to a friend pending a future court appearance.
