Alleged shoplifter turns himself in after police leave note on his car

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A Sussex County man who allegedly shoplifted turned himself in after police left a note on his car.

Daniel Gonzalez, 47, of Newton was charged with shoplifting.

On July 6, at 11:03 p.m., police responded to Walmart, located on Route 57, for a report of a shoplifting involving a male who had fled the area on foot.

Gonzalez allegedly had left the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise totaling $206.43 and when a loss prevention officer attempted to stop him he fled on foot, police said.

A check of surveillance footage showed Gonzalez arriving in a vehicle which was still parked in the lot. A note was left on his vehicle to contact the officer, police said.

Gonzalez turned himself in on July 8 and was charged. He was released pending a court date.
