MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Budd Lake is facing multiple charges including burglary after he was allegedly caught burglarizing a Mendham Township home Thursday.

David Hughes, 37, was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of hypodermic needles, possession of an open container in a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in motor vehicle.

At 4:01 p.m., Sergeant Taquinto and officer Wilce responded to a 9-1-1 call of a burglary in progress at a residence on Washington Valley Road, police said.

After a rapid response, both officers arrived and confronted Hughes exiting the rear of the residence, police said.

Hughes was taken into custody and had in his possession burglary tools and stolen items from the residence, police said.

Hughes was lodged at the Morris County Correctional facility and has since been released pending a court appearance, police said.

“We do not believe this at this time this burglary is connected to the recent burglaries on July 17th in the township. Those are still under active investigation,” police said.

Assisting Mendham Township police were the Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI Unit and the Morris County Emergency Communications Center staff.
