ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Andover Township police have arrested a woman after she attempted to flee during a traffic stop Wednesday morning.
Danielle A. Assante, 33, of Byram Township was charged with eluding, obstruction, hindering apprehension, driving while suspended, reckless driving, failure to observe a traffic control device, passing over a double yellow line, loud exhaust and maintenance of lamps.
At 8:20 a.m., a township officer observed a 2000 Toyota Avalon on Route 206 north allegedly being operated with a loud exhaust and a broken tail light. The vehicle was then stopped by police on Route 206 near the Newton town line, police said.
The officer then obtained Assante’s information and after the officer returned to his patrol vehicle to confirm her identity, she began to drive away from the scene, police said.
The officer followed the vehicle which proceeded down Woodside Ave toward Sparta Avenue. The vehicle continued across the intersection driving into the Nova Phase parking lot of Thor Labs and crashed into a parked Dodge Ram 2500 pickup. The pickup was then pushed back through a garage door and into a rear supporting wall inside the building, police said.
The building sustained moderate structural damage and both vehicles sustained heavy damage, police said
The Newton First Aid Squad checked Assante for injuries, police said.
Assante had a Parsippany traffic warrant also had Stanhope traffic and criminal warrants.
Assante was lodged in the Sussex County Jail pending an appearance in Superior Court.
The Andover Township Police were assisted by the Newton Fire Department and Newton Police Department.
