Paterson man arrested on I-78 for falsely claiming to be city cop

UNION TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) – A 65-year-old Paterson man was arrested Monday for falsely claiming that he was an undercover police officer from his hometown, State Police said.

Veljko Kitanovski was stopped on eastbound Interstate 78 for a traffic violation. Kitanovski proceeded to tell Trooper Ross Soares that he was an undercover police officer who worked for the Paterson Police Department, State Police said.

Trooper Soares did some investigating and was then notified that Kitanovski had a suspended driver’s license, did not have proper credentials to support his claim and Paterson Police Department verified that he was not, in fact, a police officer,State Police said.

Kitanovski was arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer. Kitanovski was released pending a court appearance, State Police said.
