POHATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) –Shortly before 9 am this morning a 57 year old Pohatcong Twp resident was attacked by a black bear estimated to weigh between 400-500 pounds. Pohatcong Twp. mayor James Kern tells ‘RNJ that the man was in his yard, off county route 627 and in the process of feeding his domestic animals when the bear approached him and slashed his arm and hand. The bear then ran off into a nearby wooded area and is the subject of a search, being conducted by local police and members of fish and game. The 57 year old man who was attacked was taken to an area hospital for medical attention. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening. The victim of the attack told police that he’s seen the bruin in the area before. Officials did not indicate what will happen to the bear once it is located.
