POHATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) – A 57-year-old Pohatcong man is charged for allegedly making up a story that he was attacked by a black bear.
Jeffrey Wilson of 342 County Route 627 called authorities on Wednesday August 3, for a report that he was attacked by a black bear, police said.
When officers arrived they found Wilson bleeding from the left arm.
Wilson told Officers that he came out his back door to feed the cats and he was attacked by a 500lb black bear. The bear fled into the corn field at the rear of the property after the attack, police said.
As a result of the investigation it was determined that the injuries Wilson sustained did not come from a bear attack, police said.
The injuries were pre existing from a non related accident that happened the night before. These conclusions were determined by law enforcement and medical personnel who specialize in animal encounters along with blood stain analysis, police say.
Wilson was charged with one count disorderly persons offense of providing false information to law enforcement. Wilson’s first Court appearance is scheduled for September 8, 2016 at 1:00pm.
