HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) – A pair of Centenary University wrestlers admitted they assaulted a visitor to the campus in 2015.
Joseph Bartolini, 23, of Lakewood, NJ and Adam Swift, 22, of Secaucus, NJ both pleaded guilty in Warren County Superior Court Thursday to one count each of aggravated assault for beating the victim, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
The victim was visiting his girlfriend during homecoming weekend at the campus.
Hackettstown police responded to the campus near the Van Winkle Hall dorm just after 11 p.m. on Oct. 9 for reports of an assault.
Bartolini and Swift were seniors on the wrestling team at the time. Swift held the victim while Bartolini repeatedly punched him in the face, inflicting ” extensive injuries” that required reconstructive surgery, Prosecutors office said.
Prosecutors are recommending Bartolini be sentenced 364 days in the Warren County jail and five years of probation, according to the news release. Swift is also recommended for five years’ probation, but authorities will ask that his 364-day jail sentence be suspended for cooperating against his co-defendant.
Bartolini and Swift are scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 7 before Judge H. Matthew Curry.
