SPARTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) – A 26-year-old Elizabeth man was charged Sunday afternoon after allegedly posing as a constable when he was pulled over, police said.
Juan Genao was pulled over Sunday, August 21 at 12:15 p.m. on Tomahawk Trail for several equipment violations, police said.
Genao identified himself as an “Essex County Constable and provided the Sparta police officer with a gold badge and a poorly constructed ID card, police said.
A further investigation revealed that Genao was not a Constable in Essex County and he was placed under arrest, police said.
Genao was charged with fourth degree impersonating a law enforcement officer, fourth degree providing false documents, disorderly persons hindering and disorderly persons obstruction, police said.
Genao was also issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while suspended, maintenance of lamps, unclear license plates. He was released pending a court appearance.
