HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) – Hackettstown Mayor Maria DiGiovanni along with members of the Town Council, police department, fire department, Hackettstown American Legion Post 164, town employees and the public took a moment of silence Friday afternoon to pay respect to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in New York City, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.
During the ceremony, which was held at the Town Hall 9/11 Memorial, Rev. Frank Fowler from Trinity United Methodist Church offered a special prayer in memory of all the lives that were lost and the American flag was then lowered to half-staff by members of American Legion Post. 164.
“The day started off as any other day; children went to school; people went to work; the sky was as clear as it could be. However, the day ended with tears, sorrow and a country coming together in sadness,” Hackettstown Mayor Maria DiGiovanni said.

“Today we remember; we remember those who lost their lives, simply going to work, those who gave their lives being heroes and helping others and we remember families who lives continue but with a missing place in their heart,” DiGiovanni said.
“We lost our future daughter in law that fateful day. Her name was Heather Ho, a descendant of Don Ho who was famous for the song “Tiny Bubbles”. Although she was not a resident of Hackettstown, she was soon to be the bride of my son, who lived and resided in Hackettstown almost his entire life,” Joy Snyder said.

“Heather was the head pastry chef in Windows of the World and was working in the South Tower. It would take almost a full year to confirm that Heather was among the victims. Lives forever changed,” DiGiovanni said.
A remembrance wreath was placed at the 9-11 memorial, which is located in front of Town Hall.
“Our Country lost a piece of innocence that day; a day; September 11, 2001, that we who are here must always remember and respect and never take our freedom for granted,” DiGiovanni said.
