READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) – Police have arrested one person that shot at officers on Route 22 Tuesday night.
Readington Township police officers were out on patrol when they saw a car in the breakdown lane of Route 22 eastbound, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony Kearns III said.
When the officers noticed a man in a field nearby, they asked him to return to the car. He then fired at the officers moments later, Kearns said.
Police did not return fire and were eventually able to take the man into custody, Kearns said.
Route 22 was closed in both directions in the area of Coddington Rd Tuesday night due to a police involved shooting, authorities said.
“No one was injured in the shooting,” Kearns said.
“God was watching over our officers in Hunterdon County tonight,” New Jersey State PBA President Colligan said.
