NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) – Two motorists involved in a crash that resulted in the death of a Sussex County man have been each issued a traffic summons, police say.
Town police responded on Sunday, September 25 at 1:36 p.m. to the intersection of Route 206 and Mill St for a motorcycle crash.
A police investigation revealed, that a southbound vehicle struck a southbound motorcycle within a multi-lane portion of the highway, causing its operator to be ejected and resulting in the driver to receive serious injuries, police said.
The driver was identified as Joseph J. Gribble, 54, of Stillwater Township and he later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
Police later determined, that a 2001 Toyota Camry was proceeding Northbound on Route 206 operated by Maureen Sweeney, 67, of Hackettstown, when she failed to yield to a 2014 Volkswagen Passat being operated Southbound on Water Street by Michael McNamara, 48, of Rockaway, N.J, police said.
As a result, McNamara attempted to avoid Sweeney as she turned left in front of him and briefly entered another southbound lane of travel resulting in his vehicle having contact with the southbound motorcycle operated by Gribble, police said.
Sweeney was issued a summons for right of way at intersections and McNamara was issued a summons for failure to maintain lane.
