WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – Washington Twp Committeeman, James C. Liabraaten, was charged with driving while intoxicated following a single car crash on Friday.
Township police responded to the crash at 198 West Mill Road and found a 2013 Audi that had struck a utility pole. Police identified the driver as James C. Liabraaten.
Liabraaten was treated at the scene by Long Valley First Aid Squad and later transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for observations, police said.
He was charged with DWI, reckless driving and failure to keep right.
Liabraaten was appointed by township committee members on 2010 to finish the term of Kevin Walsh, who resigned on January 5, 2010.
He is running unopposed for re-election in November.
“Jim did call to apologize for the indiscretion,” Mayor William Roehrich told the Daily Record. “He will go through the system like anyone else and due process will take its course.”
