NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) – A 42-year-old- Lafayette woman, who pleaded guilty to third degree theft on June 29, was sentenced Friday, September 30 at the Sussex County Courthouse, according to Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch.
Over a period of several years, while Ruth K. Hook was employed by a Stillwater family as a caretaker, she made purchases totaling approximately $99,000.00 on the victim’s debit and credit cards, Koch said.
Hook was sentenced to four years probation on condition that she serve 364 days in the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility, which the court will allow her to serve on the in-home detention program, Koch said.
Hook must also undergo a mental health evaluation and follow all recommendations, submit a DNA sample, complete 200 hours of community service, write a 500 word letter of apology to the victim’s family, pay $46,000.00 in restitution, have no contact with the victim’s family and pay $155 in court fines/fees, Koch said.
