MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – A 24-year-old Passaic man and a 24-year-old Newton woman are facing drug charges after being stopped by police on Monday.
A Mount Olive officer was on routine patrol when he observed a 1996 Chevrolet traveling on Route 206 south with inoperable break lights on October 10 at 8:34 a.m., police said.
The officer checked the Chevrolet’s registration, and it showed that the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The officer then initiated a motor vehicle stop of the Chevrolet in the area of 191 Route 206, police said.
The driver was identified as Jenna Smilor of Newton, N.J. and the passenger was identified as Brandon L. Ramos of Passaic, N.J.
While speaking with Ramos, the officer observed a cigarillo wrapper and suspected marijuana pieces in his lap. The officer then asked Ramos to exit the vehicle. While Ramos was exiting, he quickly picked up the cigarillo wrapper and place it in his pocket, police said.
A Morris County Sheriff’s K-9 unit responded to the scene and the K- 9 hit on a backpack located on the passenger floor of the vehicle, police said.
A search of the backpack produced a plastic baggie of suspected marijuana in the front zipper pocket, also in the backpack were two large plastic bags containing suspected marijuana, a glass jar with two plastic bags of suspected marijuana, three baggies of suspected hashish powder, and two small plastic containers of suspected wax hashish, police said.
Ramos was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of hashish with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana over 50 grams, possession of hash over 5 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to wear a seat belt.
Smilor was charged with possession of marijuana over 50 Grams, possession of hash over 5 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended, maintenance of lamps, and CDS in a motor vehicle.
Both were released pending a court hearing.
