HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) – This week the weather has been mild with sunny skies and temperatures almost summerlike in the 70s and 80s. Snow, ice and cold temperatures are the furthest thing from anyone’s mind.
But DPW Superintendent Scott Armstrong and his workers are already busy prepping for the upcoming winter and all agree that winter planning should be on the agenda of residents and business owners alike.
Preparations began this week at the Hackettstown Department of Public Works to deal with the 2016-2017 winter season. Crews are continually checking salt and grit inventories and fine-tuning equipment and vehicles, insuring that they will be ready when the first storm arrives.
“Presently the town has a full supply of salt to use this winter,” Armstrong said.
The DPW workers realize that many Hackettstown residents travel to work or school and depend on the crews to clear over the 100 roadways in the town. In order to clear these streets, Hackettstown utilizes its fleet of 9 trucks and 1 loader.
“The DPW is also responsible for clearing the municipal, town hall, fire department parking lots and more,” Armstrong said.
The goal of the DPW is to keep Hackettstown roadways clean and safe for travel, especially under challenging weather conditions.
Armstrong keeps constant track of the weather and will utilize contractors, if needed, to combat the elements on Hackettstown roadways.
