SPARTA TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) – Three people were injured in a crash involving a dump truck in Sparta Township, New Jersey.

At 7:48 a.m. Friday, police responded for a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident occurred on Route 517 at the intersection of West Mountain Road.

A 2006 Peterbuilt dump truck, driven by Brian P. Singh, 51, from Bronx, NY, was traveling north on Route 517 approaching the intersection of West Mountain Road, Sgt. Dennis Proctor said,

Singh lost control of the truck and crossed the double yellow lines, striking head-on a 2012 Audi, driven by Sonia A. Antunes, 42, from Sparta, which was traveling south on Route 517, Proctor said.

Antunes, along with her 9 and 10-year sons, who were travelling with her, complained of neck, chest and leg pain and were transported to Newton Medical Center for treatment. Singh was not injured, Proctor said.

Route 517 was closed for a short time causing large rush hour delays. Traffic was alternated through the scene until the vehicles were removed and the road completely opened up about an hour after the incident, Proctor said.

Singh was issued a summons for careless driving.
