HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) – A Hackettstown woman swerved to avoid hitting an animal in the road and then crashes into a utility pole early Saturday morning.
The crash happened at the intersection of Route 517 and Cook St at 1:48 a.m.,police said
Marlene Mrad, 34, told police she was travelling south on route 517 in a 2014 Toyota, when she swerved to miss an unknown type animal crossing the roadway, and ended up striking a utility pole, police said.
Mrad refused medical attention at the scene and no summonses were issued, police said.
According to Jersey Central Power & Light, over 100 customers lost power. As of 7:00 a.m., JCP&L is reporting 26 customers are without power and the estimated restoration time is 1:30 p.m.
Route 517 has been re-opened in both directions between Franklin St and Miller St after being closed for several hours as JCP&L worked on restoring power.
Assisting at the scene was the Hackettstown Fire Department, Hackettstown Rescue Squad, Hackettstown Fire Police, Warren County Road Department and Jersey Central Power & Light.
