NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) – Customers in Newton and parts of Andover Township that are served by the Newton Water Department saw their water running again late Thursday night after spending much of Thanksgiving Day without water because of a break in the main supply line on Sparta Avenue.
The 16-inch-diameter pipe broke at about 7:00 a.m. and the repair was completed at about 9:30 p.m. A boil water advisory was put in place on Thursday after the break occurred.
The Boil Water Advisory remains in effect and will be in effect until sometime next week per the NJ DEP guidelines. Therefore, until further notice, residents should bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute and allow it to cool before using for consumption, drinking, washing of vegetables and fruit, and washing of teeth, officials said.
Residents should continue to boil water until they have been notified that the water quality is acceptable.
Potable water is available at the following locations:
- The #1 firehouse on Mill Street.
- The #2 firehouse on Woodside Avenue.
“Thank you again for the community support and patience during the duration of the repair,” officials said.
