Passenger had marijuana ‘all over her lap,’ police say

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – A pair of Paterson residents are facing drug charges after being stopped by police and the officer observed marijuana ‘all over’ the passengers lap, police said.

On New Year’s Eve at 12:19 a.m., a township officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 46 for a motor vehicle violation, police said

When the officer approached the vehicle, he viewed the front seat passenger, Ayana Baker, 19, of Paterson with marijuana all over her lap. The officer also detected the odor of marijuana emanating from inside of the vehicle, police said.

A subsequent police investigation, determined that the driver, who was identified as Kenneth Hernandez, 20, of Paterson and Baker allegedly were in possession of heroin along with marijuana. Both subjects also admitted to the officer that they just had smoked Marijuana prior to being stopped, police said.

Hernandez was charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, improper safety glass, failure to maintain lane and view obstruction.

Baker was charged with possession of heroin, possession of marijuana (under 50 grams) and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Hernandez was released pending a court date in Washington Township Municipal Court and Baker was released pending a court date in Morris County Superior Court.
