Phillipsburg police surprises boy with a new bike after theft

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) – Phillipsburg police surprised a local boy whose bicycle was stolen Monday.

Police were dispatched to a report of a stolen bike and when the officer arrived, he found out it was a local boy that was the victim. The boy would always “stop officers on duty to say hi,” police said.

Officers checked the town from end to end for the bike and were unable to locate it, police said.

The Officers working wanted to make sure the young man who always brings smiles to their faces with his warm-hearted greetings was not disappointed when he returned home from school. Officers then went to a local Walmart to purchase a bike for him, police said.

When the Officers went to check out, Walmart Associates advised them that they wanted to donate the bike, a helmet and a lock, police said.

Officers made contact with the Father and asked him if he could respond to the police station with his son to finish up the report. When they arrived at the station, the young man was still visibly upset about the loss of his bicycle, police said.

When Officers wheeled the new bike out it was smiles, hugs and tears of joy from the young man.

“Because of the generosity of Walmart and their employees, what started out as a terrible day for a good young man, turned out to be a day he and the Officers will not soon forget!,” police said.
