MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) – A 25-year-old Budd Lake man is facing drug charges after police responded to an apartment on a report of a possible fire.
Roger Mejia 3rd, 25, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, police said.
At 8:01 p.m. on Wednesday, township police and the Budd Lake Fire Department responded to a residence in Kings Village for the report of a possible fire on the back deck, police said.
When officers arrived, they attempted to make contact with the occupants of the apartment. A male was located on the back deck of the residence and walked around to the front to allow police and fire personnel into the residence, police said.
It was determined that there was no fire and it was just a grill that was smoking on the back deck of the residence, police said.
As police entered, they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the apartment. Through an investigation, police located suspected marijuana and paraphernalia, which was determined to allegedly belong to Mejia.
Mejia was placed under arrest and then released pending a court hearing, police said.
