HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Hackettstown man allegedly drove with his blood-alcohol level four times higher than the legal limit.
On Wednesday at 4:40 p.m., a Hackettstown police officer was on Route 46 when the officer observed a vehicle travelling over the white shoulder line, police said.
A driver, who was behind the suspect’s vehicle, yelled to the officer “the guy is all over the road,” police said.
The officer then initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle in the parking lot of 34 North Main St. The officer then approached the vehicle and talked to the driver, who was identified as Deiver Sanchez, 29, of Hackettstown, NJ. While the officer was talking to the Sanchez, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle, police said.
The officer observed an empty 3.75 ml bottle of Absolut Vodka and an empty airplane size bottle of Stoli. The officer also detected the odor of alcohol coming from a water bottle that was located in the front seat area, police said.
Sanchez was charged with driving while intoxicated (0.32% BAC), careless driving and possession of an open container in a motor vehicle. He was released pending a court appearance.
In New Jersey, a person with a BAC of 0.08% or greater who operates a motor vehicle or a boat is considered to be driving under the influence.
