MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Four Union County residents are arrested after police were called to Marshalls on a alleged shoplifting complaint Thursday evening.
At 8:26 p.m., an alert customer called police and provided a description of four people who were observed shoplifting at Marshalls, police said.
The subjects had left in a vehicle and were spotted a short time later traveling west on Route 57, police said.
An officer began following the vehicle and observed the occupants throwing merchandise out of the car windows. The vehicle was stopped and one of the occupants, Kina Oneal, 35, of Plainfield was uncooperative and refused to follow the officer’s commands, police said.
Camilla Mishoe, 34, of Plainfield, passenger, was found to have warrants totaling $2175.00, police said.
Lataya Cofield, 32, of Plainfield, passenger, provided officers with a false name. She was also found to have warrants totaling $776.00 in both her real name and the false name provided, police said.
The driver, Asa Braxton, 38, of Plainfield was found to be in possession of 17 Oxycodone tablets, police said.
Mansfield Township’s K-9 Unit was called and K-9 Jax indicated a presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A search turned up over $2200.00 worth of stolen merchandise from Marshalls and TJ Max, police said.
All arrestees were transported to police headquarters where a police matron was called to search the females. While being searched, Cofield attempted to grab an item that was hidden in her crotch area. With the help of officers she was brought under control and a large can of pepper spray was recovered.
Oneal was charged with obstruction and was released.
Mishoe was turned over to Woodbridge Police on their warrant.
Braxton was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and was lodged in the Warren County Jail.
Cofield was charged with fourth degree hindering apprehension and possession of an unlawful weapon. She was lodged in the Warren County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges for possession of stolen property and shoplifting are forthcoming.
