Former legal intern busted for allegedly stealing from Morris County Prosecutor’s Office

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County lawyer was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office when he was a legal intern.

Peter C. LaGreca, 29, of East Hanover was charged with one count of third-degree computer theft, one count of third-degree theft and one count of third-degree receiving stolen property, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

In December 2015, a court-authorized search, seizure and forensic examination of LaGreca’s electronic devices revealed files and data belonging to the Office of the Morris County Prosecutor, Grewal said.

Further investigation, in coordination with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, revealed that LaGreca was previously employed as a legal intern at the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office from May 2012 to May 2013. At that time, LaGreca unlawfully copied files and data from computer systems at the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Grewal said.

LaGreca was released on his own recognizance pending his first appearance in the Bergen County Judicial Processing Court on Wednesday, April 19 at 8:30 a.m.

This investigation was conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit.
